Macchiato The Room

FRANCISCO BARBA

Born in Baja California, Mexico, Francisco spent his childhood in Mexico City where the Catholic baroque merged with pre-Columbian (Aztec) culture. Here is where he developed his cultural identity.

He then studied architecture in Guadalajara before eventually making the move to Sydney, Australia where he developed an interest in printmaking.

With a passion for archaeological places, folk stories, the concept life & death and nature, Francico recreates a different reality full of mythical creatures that link us to ancient cultures. His reinterpretation of life is full of Mexican folklore and symbolism.

Influenced by childhood images his art follows a path of introspec&on through fears and dreams. Memories of grasshoppers and ants populate his images along with humans with animal body parts or religious artefacts that represent life and death and the duality of humanity.
