Gabriela Villalba is a Venezuelan-born photographer dedicated to
documentary portraiture, behind-the-scenes, and artistic photography.
Based in Australia since 2013, her lens has captured much of the
cultural essence of Sydney's Northern Beaches.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, Gabby turned her focus
inward, creating images that convey a more personal and emotional
narrative through photographic hybrids, self-portraits, and collages.
A finalist in the 2024 Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design
Prize, Gabby's work reflects a deep interest in self-awareness and
environmental care. She primarily combines various photographic
techniques (from camera-less processes to digital methods) along with
recycled materials such as cardboard and vintage paper. In this same
spirit, she creates cyanotypes (a 19th-century technique) printed with
sunlight, crafting new narratives that invite reflection.
Co-founder and lead photographer of Kayapa Creative Studio, Gabby
has also been instrumental in fostering creative communities through
initiatives like La Crème Creative Inc. and Brookvale Arts District (BAD).
